Backstory:
WikiTo correspond with previously established canonmates, Morgan is male and Chrom is his father.
Personality:
To understand Morgan, one must first understand his past, which is… he doesn’t have one. The other future children appear with a mission to save the world, and the guilt and trauma of being raised in an apocalyptic wasteland. Morgan, however, is almost completely amnesiac. His only memories are of his beloved mother Robin, and fragmented at that. For example, he remembers interacting and being taught tactics by her, but not where they were living or what they were doing with the information.
Because of this, his motivation isn’t to save the world from a terrible future, as he can’t remember if he’s even from the same future as the others. His goal instead is to recover his memory, while becoming as good or better a tactician as his mother.
Amnesia is a tough thing to live with, but it does little to get Morgan down. His personality is extremely sociable, much like his mother. He’s described as becoming everyone’s best friend within a week of joining the army. But although he’s as friendly as Robin, Morgan is a little less cautious and a lot more eccentric. His suggestions on battle tactics can at times be unorthodox to the point of being called sociopathic. This comes a bit from him being quick to describe everything in a positive or even cheerful light, even activities like hacking up Risen. This doesn’t come from a lack of concern of others well-being, however, as he proves himself to be sensitive to others’ feelings (…most of the time.) He’s just a naturally upbeat person.
In practice though, that personality makes him come across as a bit oblivious, or off in his own world. He’s also described himself as clumsy, as he has a tendency to jump quickly into things. However, like a good tactician, he prepares for those possibilities. For example, after losing a copy of his mother’s annotated tactical journal in the hot springs, he tells Inigo that he has an exact copy back at camp he made just in case.
It’s small things like these that showcase Morgan’s natural brilliance. His roster description lists him as “the most shamelessly self driven,” and it’s true. Morgan makes no secret of his love and admiration for his mother, or his “ploys” to get her attention. He’s open about his goal of becoming a great tactician and the amount of work and study he puts into the task.
He also throws himself headlong – literally – into regaining his memories. Some of the things he’s tried are banging his head into posts, falling from heights, pondering half-drowning himself in a hot spring, and so on. Common sense doesn’t seem to come into play much when there’s the possibility of remembering something. Although he’s aware that the memories he’s lost may not be good ones, he still wants to find them, because they’re a part of him that he’s lost.
Overall, Morgan is a young man with a brilliant mind who has a lot of potential, and also a long way to go. His amnesia makes him even more of a puzzle. However, he also admits that lacking memories gives him a freedom that some of the other children don’t have. He doesn’t remember the terrible future, and because of that, for him the stakes feel much smaller.
Interactions with others:
Much like his mother, Morgan’s cheerful personality easily endears him to the other members of the Shepherds. Possibly because he knows he’s weird himself, he’s always willing to overlook the idiosyncrasies of others. For example, he and his cousin Owain are part of the “Justice Cabal,” a game where they basically LARP by making up move names and pretending to fight one another. Or well… Morgan considers it to be a game. Owain takes it slightly more seriously. Still, Morgan doesn’t judge his friend for his interests and is more than happy to indulge him, because he has a good time.
Many of his supports involve him helping the other children with various problems, such as finding a flower for Nah, helping Noire with her bug phobia, encouraging Cynthia to be herself, and encouraging Severa’s cooking. However relationship with Kjelle shows that he can also be pretty tactless at times. He wants to watch her train and thus offers to be her squire, but his main motivation seems to be to discover what she looks like without her armor… apparently he believes she looks like a “side of beef.” (And also thinks that would be cool?)
Finally, there’s his family, with his mother being obviously the most important. As Robin is the only thing he clearly remembers, Morgan idolizes his mother to a somewhat alarming degree. Just how alarming is only really apparent in the parallel universe version of events shown in the Outrealm from “The Future Past” DLC maps. The Morgan in that universe was willing to follow his mother even when she was possessed by Grima and ceased to really be herself.
However, idolizing her doesn’t mean going easy on her. Part of his love manifests in trying to one-up her whenever possible. He digs pitfalls and tries to trick her into falling into them and hides her tactical books, in a plan to try and out-smart her. His ultimate goal is to surpass her expertise, but he holds her in such high regard, he doesn’t realize how close to her level he already is.
Morgan unfortunately doesn’t remember his sister or father clearly, but he doesn’t let that get in the way of his interactions with them. He quickly fell back into a sibling relationship with Lucina, stating that after an incident where they fought off a cockroach and got reprimanded by their father that they’d “really felt like a family.” Lucina means a lot to him, and the thought of her possibly dying distressed him. His lack of memories of his father also bothers him a great deal, and he goes to the lengths of banging his head against a post to try and dredge up some memories of their time together. In the end, he only gets one small memory back, but for Morgan it’s a happy and precious one.
Canon Powers:
Morgan’s default class changes depending on his father; since his father is Chrom in this case his default class is Tactician (since he can’t be a Lord.) Like his mother, he’s able to change into any regular class available for his gender. However, since being a tactician is his dream, I’m going to assume he stuck to that path, making his current class Grandmaster. This class is balanced overall and uses swords and magical tomes.
Skills: (All of these would be Mind, I guess. They are basically the same as passive skills on a Persona.)
Rightful King: Increases the trigger rate of the unit’s skills by 10%.
Ignis: Add half Mag or Str to the other value. Trigger % = (Skill stat) (This ups the amount of damage dealt some of the time, like a passive, randomly triggering Mind/Phys Charge.)
Veteran: Grants the unit 50% more EXP while paired with another unit. (Similar to a passive Growth skill.)
Solidarity: Grants Crit/Dodge + 10 to all adjacent allies. (Similar to a passive Agility up skill.)
Rally Spectrum: Use Rally to grant +4 to all stats to units within three spaces for one turn. (Essentially Heat Riser on a group of allies.)
Canon Weapons|Items:
Silver sword – Expensive, but extremely powerful. (Phys)
Levin sword – Sword that does magical damage. (Light)
Bolganone – Fire magic tome. (Fire)
Thoron – Lightning magic tome. (Lightning)
Elixir – Healing potion.
Canon Baggage:
Mother’s Book: A well worn book of strategies, annotated by Robin. His most precious possession…. Despite it being copied more than once.
